Facts About Lake Conroe
The Lake Conroe Area is a beautiful oasis in the Heart of East Texas! Lake Conroe is a man-made lake and was completed January 1973 and was filled on October 31, 1973. The lake was built as a joint project between the City of Houston, the Texas Water Development Board, and the San Jacinto River Authority as an alternative water supply for the city of Houston, TX.
A seven-year drought in the 1950s in the region, lead to a five-year construction plan that began in 1968 to prevent a repeat of the water shortages experienced during the drought. The maximun depth of Lake Conroe is stated at 75 feet and the average depth is 20 feet.
